The Morning Starts Early for Sharon at about 3:00am she has about three or four extra painful contractions
and then wakes Dave..."I think we need to go to the hospital...". Sharon makes the call and this time takes no for an answer...
Sharon admitted and examined - 2cm Diliated - Admitted into Hospital - "You wont be going home today..." It was finally happening. Examined again at 8.30am by the Doctor - 4cm Dilated. How about we get this show moving along, waters were broken. Examined at 11:30am - 5cm Dilated, things are happening nicely. Examined at 5:30 - 6cm Dilated - What the...? After 6hrs of painful Contractions, only 1cm extra?!?. Things have slowed down quite a bit. We are given an option to have an Extra Drip added to speed up contractions, along with an Epidural to take the pain away from the Extra pain....The staff were very busy and the bag and Epidural never arrived. Sharon however persisted with the Increasingly Painful contractions. Did I mention Increasingly Painful for what seemed to be at least 1.5hrs. Examined again - Wow! 9cm nearly at the 10cm stage...Sharon is doing what her body is telling her to do PUSH... 10cm - Fully Dilated - Sharon is an absolute Champion - FIRST STAGE CLEARED! Time to Push this Baby Out - 1.5hrs Later - Kaitlyn Ruby Dalla Costa was born. |
Dad's Wrap |
Where do I start - It was an amazing time. I was proud, emotional, happy, ecstatic all at the same time. Overwhelmed with emotions and now this beautiful little baby girl to top it all off. Sharon was absolutely amazing through the whole birth, cool calm and collected, very focused and determined. At times for me I wondered, how can she go on, and somehow she found the strength to continue, one hard and painful contraction after another. And towards the end when Sharon was really tired, Three Sleepless days and nights of constant contractions, 1.5 hours of constant pushing where I thought there was no physical way of continuing through sheer exhaustion. She managed to find another deep breath and hard push to deliver the baby.
I am Proud... |
