This was a big budget short film aimed at showing just what the Canberra Community
can do. Using resources from all over Australia, the Sci-Fi film
took on the shape of a futuristic military society.
This film involved some spectacular vehicles, including a Sarason, Army Truck,
and a Corvette. It also involved some great Armoury, thanks to John
Fox (See the Links Section), Current Army issue weapons,
and Army style Costumes, headgear and jackets - It also meant the
early morning firing these weapons in the capital, nothing but blanks of course. CGI
has been utilised for the short film and Canberra has never looked
so futuristic!
Considering we had already thrown ourselves around for previous adventures, i.e
YakkaOy and the other bits 'n pieces. We felt that we were up to
the challenge of Being Extras and playing Soldiers, but also Stunt
Soldiers!
For months we trained at the Police Citizens Youth Club in Canberra. Focusing
on Fight Choreography and working with the actors to fine tune their
fighting skills. We also worked on our own cable pulling techniques,
and breakfalling correctly. Being a Judo Practitioner, this always
is beneficial!
Along came the weekend for shooting, Three nights were set aside for the filming,
Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. All nights with a start time
of around 6:00pm and finishing no earlier than dawn the next day.
These long hours tend to reak a little havok with the day job, but
a few coffees later, and you're good to go again.
Friday night some action was shot, and if you pay particular attention to the
trailer at the website, Steve gets in on the action again, getting
hit by a woman and throwing himself up and onto an armoured vehicle - Ouch
thats gotta hurt after 8 takes! Another fine job!
Saturday was the big night with friends, family and investors coming out to
view the proceedings. While Armourer John Fox and Stunt Master Mark
Campbell entertained the Audience with Firing of Guns, Firework and
other pieces of Knowledgeable information, Misha and Warren stepped
through the fight sequences for the actors - the Stunt guys were
preparing to do a lot of cable work and gun action - AND IT WENT OFF! LITERALLY!
The cable work was done, Myself and Tua chucked on the harnesses, Elbow and
Knee Guards for extra protection. The mattresses were moved into
place, and the Guys at the other end of the cables were ready for
action. We were pulled off our feet from location to location, landing
safe and sound on the mattresses - You'll have to view the trailer
to see us inaction, and hopefully get to see the short...
The guns were fired next, fully automatic, carttridges everywhere, flames
coming out of nozzles. Just what every man wants to do! Right?!?
Once again Special mentions - Dean, Warren, Misha, Mark Campbell (Lots of great
hints and tips), John Fox, SteveDC, Mark, Vlad, Vlad (Not a typo,
there were two of them) and all who came out to support and watch - Paul, Bec and I do believe
my Wife was there again suppporting me!
Good Memories, Good Photos, Good Footage....What more could you ask for?
Oh yeah the dude driving the Sarason - Fantastic to talk to, also told some great
stories about Denzel Washington and working with him in Courage under Fire!!
